If you are waiting on a US visitor or student visa interview in the UAE, there is one detail that decides more than almost anything else you can control, and it is buried three quarters of the way down the embassy’s own page. New interview appointments are released on Friday mornings, between 7:30 and 11:30 UAE time.
That is the window. Not a rumour, not a trick: the US Mission publishes it. Appointments for nonimmigrant visa interviews are released every Friday morning in that slot, excluding US and UAE holidays, and extra appointments are occasionally released outside it.
Why this matters more than the published wait time
The wait times you see quoted are the next available date at the moment somebody looked. They are not a queue you hold a numbered ticket in. When a batch is released on a Friday, the calendar can jump forward by months for the people who are watching, and then quietly settle back as those dates are taken.
Checking on Saturday afternoon tells you what is left over. Checking during the window tells you what was actually available.
“Routine services are suspended” and what it means in practice
The embassy’s visa page says that while the Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai are open, routine visa processing is not available in the UAE at this time. That sentence has convinced a lot of people the door is closed. It is not the whole picture, because the same page sets out the weekly release schedule and the US Department of State still publishes a next available interview date for both UAE posts.
Reduced is not the same as closed. It does mean the volume is lower and the competition for each released slot is higher, which is exactly why the timing matters.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are not the same queue
On 21 August 2026 the Department of State listed the next available visitor visa interview in Dubai at 11.5 months and in Abu Dhabi at 6 months. Student and exchange categories showed 5 months in Dubai and 6 in Abu Dhabi.
Most people apply where they live and never look at the other post. If your schedule can absorb a drive to Abu Dhabi, checking both before you commit is free and can be worth more than every other tactic on this page put together. These figures move, so check them yourself rather than trusting a number written in August.
If you already have an appointment, you are not stuck with it
Applicants who hold a booking can sign in at any time and move to an earlier date if one has opened. Cancellations happen constantly. A booked applicant who checks regularly is in a better position than an unbooked one waiting for the perfect date, because the booking is the thing that gives you the right to move.
The practical order is: take whatever date you can get, then improve it.
Three things that quietly cost people their slot
Since 1 September 2025 children of every age must attend the interview in person, in every category including renewals, and can no longer be covered by the Interview Waiver Program. Families who left a small child at home have lost appointments over exactly this.
You cannot bring a bag of any size into the Embassy, including a handbag, and you cannot bring a laptop or tablet. There is a small storage point for phones at the security checkpoint and nothing for bags or larger electronics. Arrive with them and you will be turned away. Arrive no more than fifteen minutes early, documents in a folder, everything else left behind.
Applicants for F, M and J visas, among other categories, are instructed to set the privacy on all social media accounts to public so vetting can be completed.
What we do, and what nobody can do
FastUSTravel handles US visitor and student visas, B1, B2, F1 and F2, plus ESTA travel authorisation, which is not a visa. We watch the release window, book the earliest confirmed date we can reach, prepare the DS-160 and the supporting file, and keep checking for an earlier slot after the booking is made.
What no one can do, us included, is create an appointment that does not exist or influence the officer’s decision. There is no paid queue. If someone offers you one, that is the moment to walk away.
You can also do all of this yourself, for free, using the official sites below. Plenty of people do.
