What a US Tourist Visa Actually Costs in 2026
UAE residents applying for a B1/B2 tourist or business visa often ask a simple question. How much will this actually cost before travel even begins. The answer has two parts, the fee the US government charges every applicant, and any amount you pay a service provider to help prepare the application.
The MRV Fee
Every B1/B2 applicant pays a Machine Readable Visa fee, usually called the MRV fee, directly to the US Department of State. This fee is currently USD 185. It applies whether the visa is approved or refused, and it must be paid before an interview appointment can be scheduled.
The MRV fee does not change based on nationality, appointment wait time, or how the application is submitted. It is a fixed government charge.
The Visa Integrity Fee
A second government charge applies to most non immigrant visas, including B1/B2. Known as the Visa Integrity Fee, it adds USD 250 on top of the MRV fee. It was introduced under a 2025 immigration law and applies broadly across tourist, student, and work visa categories.
Starting in fiscal year 2026, this fee is adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index, so the exact amount can rise slightly year to year. It cannot be waived at the time of application. In certain narrow circumstances tied to compliance with visa conditions, part of it may later be reimbursed, but applicants should not count on this when budgeting.
Combined, the MRV fee and the Visa Integrity Fee bring the standard government cost for most UAE based B1/B2 applicants to at least USD 435 per person in 2026.
A note on the optional expedite fee
A separate pilot program allows some applicants to pay USD 750 for an earlier interview slot. This option is not yet available in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. It is entirely optional where it does exist, and it only affects appointment timing, not the outcome of the application.
What These Fees Do Not Buy
Paying the MRV fee and the Visa Integrity Fee only allows your application to be reviewed. Neither fee, nor any combination of fees, guarantees that a visa will be issued. Every application is assessed on its own facts by a consular officer, and that officer’s decision is final. No amount of money changes that.
Applicants should also be cautious of anyone suggesting that a higher payment to a private agent improves the odds of approval. It does not. What a good service can do is help you gather accurate documents, complete the DS-160 correctly, and present a clear, well organized application.
